From Argentina to Chattanooga
Sonia trained in dressmaking in Argentina, where she learned to build a garment from the first seam to the final press, and she has run her own tailoring business ever since. She spent most of those years in Miami, fitting brides of every style and every background, and moved to Chattanooga three years ago with all of that experience packed alongside her machines.
Why brides
She loved romance and weddings long before she sewed for them. The turn came when her first son got married. Watching that day come together, she fell in love with weddings themselves, and she began steering her general tailoring work toward bridal. Twenty years and hundreds of gowns later, wedding dresses are the center of the studio, and she is proud of every bride who has trusted her with the most photographed dress of her life.
What a fitting with Sonia feels like
Calm. She knows a wedding dress carries more nerves than anything else a woman will ever have altered, and she treats that trust as the best part of the job. She wants every bride to leave the first fitting knowing exactly what will change, what it will cost, and that the dress is in hands that have done this hundreds of times.
Sonia is a Christian, and her faith shapes how she sees this work. To her a wedding is sacred, not just a party, and a dress made for one deserves patience, honesty, and steady hands.
When she isn't sewing, she's dancing. Sonia is an avid dancer and drives to Knoxville every week for it, which is how Knoxville brides started finding her too.
Away from the machine she is a mother of two sons and a grandmother of two girls, and after three years here, Chattanooga is home.
